ACPET – REVIEW OF THE ESOS ACT 2000


In August 2009, the Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, asked the Hon. Bruce Baird to review the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 and report back to the Government with changes designed to ensure Australia continues to offer world class quality international education.

On Tuesday of this week the Minister for Education,
Julia Gillard, released the report on the Review of the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 sometimes referred to as the Baird Report.

The report details recommendations for strengthening the legislation to better protect international students and makes recommendations including:
  • more support for students through provision of
    improved information
           
  • stronger consumer protection mechanisms
           
  • improved regulation of Australia's international
    education sector

  • enhanced support to study and live in Australia
